Nikki Vinck on How a Lawn Sign Sparked a Movement
How can one woman spark a movement for reproductive rights?
In this episode of ROAR, Danielle Davies talks with activist and former reproductive healthcare PA Nikki Vinck about how a simple lawn sign campaign turned into a 13,000-sign movement for women’s rights and political change.
Her advocacy journey took an unexpected turn when her lawn signs supporting Kamala Harris sparked a local movement, ultimately distributing over 13,000 signs across swing states. Vinck discusses her approach to activism, emphasizing the power of conversation and the importance of reducing political tensions through dialogue. She also shares personal anecdotes about how significant political events shaped her journey as a mother and advocate. The discussion covers her involvement in Michigan's Prop 3 and her belief in the power of individual action. Nikki offers insights into navigating challenging conversations and encourages others to engage in advocacy in ways that suit their strengths and comfort levels. I'm not where I'm supposed to be you're listening to ROAR a show that amplifies the voices of women breaking barriers leading change and making real impact keep listening for bold ideas and stories that inspire you to find your voice and make some noise all right so today I'm super excited to kick off ROAR with our first guest Nikki sepiro vinier whose fans and followers know her as Nikki Vin Nikki's a fierce advocate for women's rights and a former physician assistant in the productive space but most
Recently you might have seen her in the news when her yard signs caused a stir with her Michigan neighbors instead of backing down Nikki stood her ground and made an even bigger statement we're going to dive into her journey what drives her and how she handles challenges with such Grace and determination welcome Nikki hi everyone hi we're so happy to have you and I'm really excited to dive into this because as because we've spoken before I basically I was thinking about doing this podcast because I'm
Kind of pivoting things and then almost immediately saw a post about you from somebody else went to your page and reached out immediately because you're completely my new inspiration so thank you so we'll just get started with what it is you're doing since not everybody knows lots of people approach advocacy and activism in different ways but tell us what you've been doing in Michigan and how it's evolved from you know basic reaching out to yard signs to even the postcard for a Palin itive awesome so
I when Biden stepped aside I have a background in Reproductive Rights and health care and advocacy work in that space and when kamla became the Forefront candidate those of us in the reproductive Healthcare world were very excited and so I really wanted to kind of throw my support behind her wholeheartedly and so I ordered a same day printed lawn sign from CVS and I put it up on my front lawn and I had one friend who reached out with like that's awesome I'd like that and
I printed three more for her I kind of figured you know there was nothing that was even uploaded onto kamla's website yet and so I was like I think there might be some interest here and so I ordered 25 lawn signs and you created this did you created this lawn sign right okay I created the lawn sign I did the design and I wanted to use this feminist logo and I wanted to make it Pink because that to me was why I was standing behind her
First and foremost was her background on Reproductive Rights and support in addition to all the other reasons why she's such a qualified candidate so then I printed 25 signs I paid to get them overnight sent to me and they were here by that Friday after and I put them all out on my front lawn and essentially did like a popup shop so the same kind of concept of when somebody has you know eggs out on the front lawn from their chicken and people can buy their
Batch of eggs or whatever fir kind of like a if you want to take a lawn sign here's a lawn sign and here's what it cost me to buy them so if you want to pitch in so I can buy the next person's sign that would be awesome and so the whole idea was like I bought the first 25 lawn signs and I haven't bought any lawn signs since and it's been this movement of this pay it forward movement almost like when you go to Starbucks
And the person in front of you paid for your latte you pay for the latte behind you so I fronted for the 25 signs those 25 signs ended up buying you know the next batch I talked to friends and family I'm originally from California and so there's a lot of them out there in that solidly blue state that wanted to do more things for our swing state and didn't really know what or how so a bunch of family and friends pitched in some money which was
Awesome that bought 200 signs the 200 signs bought 800 signs then the 800 signs bought 2,000 signs and next thing I knew it we've ordered 13,000 signs for the swing state of Michigan we've shipped signs to North Carolina Pennsylvania Arizona Wisconsin Ohio we have Georgia we have them in all of the Swing States so it's been this kind of like swing state lawn sign movement and when you say we who is we me it's me exactly so you yourself are shipping these signs all over the
Place and you're yeah there is no we it's me but it sounds I like using the word we because I can't do it by myself without the momentum so we is really me and the collective power of us but there is yeah it's it's me but it also goes to show like you it you know it does it takes a village it takes everybody but it can also you're the spark yeah I think what's powerful about it is like there is so much potency in the
Power of one like one person can make a difference and one person can lean in see a void step up and fill the void and I think that's kind of what I did and what I was empowered to do is be like instead of just sitting by and watching it and saying you know I can't do anything about it I leaned in and I kind of said I think we can drive some change here and then some people followed which was fun and you got I
Mean you admittedly you got some push back from your neighborhood it did yes so my neighbor complained right when I set up that 25 lawn sign popup stand which was surprising and I was not home at the time and they put a notice in my mailbox which is a federal offense to use someone's mailbox which is actually kind of the funny thing of all of it very and I posted they said that you could only have a single sign and so we made this little witty
Video of my kids tying all the signs together with string to make them one sign essentially and Haley Stevens are one of our Representatives chimed into the chat was like Hey here is elene mlan she's the mayor of Birmingham Michigan here's her direct phone number give her a call and so I gave her a call and she said no you're fine keep going and we kind of got the blessing from City officials to say we don't really meddle into that stuff and political signs are yours
To do what you want and I said all right well then let's go that I think it's so great that you just kept going because I think a lot of times as soon as somebody especially because we're in such like a volatile political state as soon as there's some push back people you know they're like ah like you just don't want to it's tough to be in the middle of it there's a lot of people that I know that are like oh yeah I feel the
Same way but I just wouldn't say anything about it what do you think of that yeah I think that's a really good point and I think there's a way that you could do it in the in kind of an approachable and not as abrasive way and so my whole stance was I really wanted to create a conversation with neighbors and I really want to lower the temperature of what's going on politically and it seems that so often right now we feel like we can't talk about
Things or we can't have these conversations for fear of disagreement and I actually feel like in those uncomfortable conversations are where we can have kind of the most movement and it may not be that we ever change someone's Vote or change someone's Vision but what it can be is this idea of we can agree to disagree but let's just talk about what drives us what motivates us kind of what makes us feel vulnerable in this election rather than it had felt like politics has been getting
So divisive over time and I think in leaning into the discomfort but doing it in kind of like a Kinder gentler way in a way it opens up the opportunity for conversation around it so I think instead of backing down in that moment my goal was to stand up and say no actually I know what I'm doing is okay right now so I want to stand up for myself and like if you'd like to come talk about it I'm more than happy to chat with you
About these lawn signs about this political climate about what drives me and I'd love to hear what drives you right and I think that so often it gets so contentious so quickly and I think if we can all just kind of take a step back lower the temperature a little bit we might actually be able to talk about these things again and it's been a long time since we've been able to do that it really has and I like how you know you pointed it as
What drives you because it's not just this you know you grow up with thinking that you're a thing you know you're a Democrat you're a liberal you're a dog lover you're a cat lover you are these things and you grow up with them and it becomes almost rote at some point where you're like am I am I these things so what is the thing that actually drove you what is the you know what's the starting point for your for your advocacy that's a great question it
All kind of happened by accident in total transparency so I'm born and raised in California in Los Angeles and I think I took for granted that not everybody around me was liberal and believed the same way I did and my partner is from Michigan and so we moved out to Michigan and then I ended up you know I'm a physician assistant in OBGYN and I had just been in this space now for 10 years and in 2022 row fell and it was actually a little bit
Before then so it was right when RBG died so it was about you know however many months before eight months before or so that RBG died and those of us in the reproductive space immediately mourned her death for so many reasons but the first say was row is going row is gone right and I think that's when I realized I didn't necessarily choose to be an advocacy there was almost this moment where like advocacy has kind of chosen me because I ended up in this space
As this person who has taken being liberal and being a Democrat for granted my whole life and then now all of a sudden I've got this 10year history of being in OBGYN and Reproductive Rights and I've got this interesting mix of passion and now skill and I'm in this Battleground state that all of a sudden I was like huh I have a voice and my voice has power to it and so I think that's when I started leaning into it more was when row fell in
2022 I joined in on the prop three ballot measure signature Gathering and we gathered 500 signatures within a weekend that rof fell which was fun we had a lemonade STI and had people come out and sign the petitions and so that was kind of the first taste where I was like oh this can be impactful and oh one person can make a difference and oh I should fight for what I believe in and then I just kept leaning into it kept getting more involved had been
A part of a lot of different reproductive roundtables with the governor lieutenant governor and a lot of those conversations and I think those roundtables are really helpful too because you're honing your voice a little bit and you're learning how to speak up for myself my patients my children right and so when you ask what drives me into advocacy It's a combination of all of those pieces that together just wo this tapestry where you just couldn't really say no to doing things anymore and all of a
Sudden here I am and then recently I lost my job and there were you know 50 days left until the election and I said well we're going to just lean in as hard as we can and keep fighting the good fight if you will it's awesome wait I just want to go back one for one thing for people who don't know about proper free in Michigan could you just describe what that is and what that meant for you yeah so that was a citizen Le ballot
Initiative that then enshrined abortion rights into our state constitution so we were one of the first states that when they talk about putting row back in the States or putting abortion rights back in the States we were one of the first states in the United States to codify the right to abortion in our state constitution so Prop 3 started as a it was the first citizen lead initiative and we needed I think it was 450,000 votes we ended up turning in close to 800,000 so almost
Double what was required went through a whole bunch of hoop law jumped through a whole bunch of Hoops ended up getting it on the ballot in 2022 and that was our election where we ended up getting Governor Whit reelected for her second term and ended up with our Dem Trifecta so prop three in Michigan ended up passing with about a 55% win which was tremendous very tremendous and but speaking of you know so you've been in this space talking about row which is obviously abortion rights
And abortion access and it's you know I'm thinking about what you said before how you want to lower the temperature of the room and have these conversations ironically this is like one of the most divisive topics because people feel so strongly about it in different ways how has that been how has that conversation been going for you I've seen some of your posts where you've explained because you've got you know you've got this history in reproductive health care so you're excellent at explaining it all how
Has that gone for you have you I mean do you feel like I know it's really hard to change minds but maybe to even just get people to accept that the idea is just a different it's just you don't have to worry about it's not saying you're Pro abortion it's saying you're just not against it like people have options and women need options for their healthare how's that gone for you and also just really quick it is okay if you are pro-abortion right it is okay
For people to be Pro totally and I would say I am but I think it's a harder swing to go from to I think how and why I became better at talking about this is actually having conversations with some of my in-laws my mother-in-law is a very conservative Catholic woman and I have a beautiful relationship with her she is a wonderful mother-in-law she is a wonderful grandmother we call her Mimi to my kids she's an incredible person she's a dentist she's in medicine and she has
Different views than I do and that doesn't make her a bad person and I'd like to think that she doesn't think that I'm a bad person for having different views and over the years we've had several conversations about abortion where it's not necessarily me trying to change her mind by any means as much as it is to be again vulnerable and say hey this is what's driving me to continue to advocate in this space and I think that I have shared several patient stories that I
Find to be helpful in terms of that kind of like swing voter which not that it's like manipulative or intentional some of it is intentional but it's also just exactly what you said opening up their minds to say huh I see why somebody would be on that side of the room you know and I can understand where they come from and for her she has a very different history too and so I think when you think about it from that standpoint of people have different thoughts
And different feelings and while I may never get her of switch her vote and that's not my goal I just want to again kind of lower that temperature especially around abortion and say hey here are the nuances of this here's how it relates to ectopic pregnancy here's how it relates to these like septic pregnancies what we just saw with Amber right and so I think some of the thought process is just kind of tweaking the way we can connect with somebody and how we connect with
Them to say it's not about pushing your vote it's just about being humans together in this conversation and in this world and existing together and saying here's where I come from and if someone's vote changes out of that then that's a win but if it doesn't change their vote but it opens their eyes and opens their heart at least to how somebody else on the other side of things feels that's a win too absolutely and I love how you know all of these conversation a couple
Times you've mentioned family like you've talked about your partner and your mother-in-law you've also mentioned your kids I know they were in that video with the when you were stringing the yard signs together how has how does being a mom impact your advocacy or being a family member even how does that go like especially even you know a lot of people have I just was reading an article in the New York Times this morning about families being divided because of politics more than ever it's like
It's like Civil War stuff and it's such a shame because people are losing full relationships because of it but as a mom especially how does advocacy impact your family what does it mean for you guys you know it's a really interesting thing because I don't know any different in a way so when I was pregnant with my son he was that's my so I have three kids I have a boy a girl and a boy and my oldest is six and a half and then I
Have four and a half and then I have two and a half and when I was pregnant with my son he was born in 2018 I was 2017 and that was when Harvey Weinstein trial happened and so I knew I was pregnant with a boy around the same time that all came out so it was really important to me to learn how to parent a male in this world right now and thankfully I have a wonderful partner wonderful father wonderful father-in-law like we have incredible examples
Of men good men in our family which is really amazing and I'm so lucky to have that but that kind of started my parent journey and then my daughter was born May 30th of 2020 and that was the weekend of the George Floyd murder and protests and black lives matter so we were in the hospital she was born on a Friday night we were in the hospital in our Hospital stay this is Peak covid May 2020 and like the world is literally on fire out there
Right then my son is born in 2022 in April of 2022 I'm still on matern eternity leave and R is leaked when he was four weeks old in May and I was in the doctor's office for his like four week visit and I come out of the doctor's office to the leaking of the dobs decision so in a way I haven't known anything different in Parenthood and it's been part of how I have created being a parent because the whole goal for me in Parenthood is
Like how am I going to raise these little humans to be good people in the world like what are we going to how am I going to instill in them good values how am I going to teach them to be kind to friends kind to others like how am I going to do that and I think I've never known anything different as a mother and being in those kind of world events throughout the Parenthood development for me kind of helped solidify the need more so to
Really lean in and teach these kids to be good people in the world in terms of kind of abortion advocacy being a mother became made me far more pro-abortion and passionate about the right to choose because Parenthood is hard it's really hard and it's really timec consuming and it's really expensive and if you didn't want it like I really wanted it I really wanted these three kids and here I am like dying sometimes sorry excuse my French maybe you can that's okay but like here I
Am really struggling in the midst of this and I planned these pregnancies well right yeah so it makes me feel really passionate about being pro-choice because if you don't want it like that is a big change to your life you are not kidding it is such a big change I actually just said that to my 19-year-old Who Wants To Be A marine he was like I do these hard things Mom I'm done I've done harder things physically than you can ever do first of all he
Has never given birth but that's besides the point but what I said is I'll tell you the hardest thing I've ever done is actually be your mom like and that is an experience that you don't have and you will never be your mom but it is interesting and it does make you really rethink everything and also I think it up levels your compassion because you see that you know there are all these women in these different varying levels of choosing to be mothers or not choosing
To be mothers or God forbid having mother voiced it upon you or not being able to be a mom when you want to and I think it's all challenging you know like it's nice to have a little compassion for each other but speaking of you know when you were saying that it's your kids have known no different do you think you would be as involved in advocacy if it were not for your kids just I'm just curious so for me I always was politically aware and
A little involved but it was when Donald Trump won the 2016 election and I looked down at my daughter I had her during the inauguration weekend of Barack Obama so it was like this most special night I really wanted her we had gone through difficulties in the middle and I was like you know I really like you said I really wanted this kid I was like so excited to have her and there was a snowstorm and my toddler was home sick so my husband didn't stay
And it was just the two of us it was the two of us watching the inauguration all weekend and then fast forward eight years and I'm having to think my daughter is eight years old and now we have a president who openly says he's going to grab women's bily parts and you know potentially shut down and eventually shut down part of their autonomy so it definitely it definitely propelled me to action in a way that I probably would not have been propelled before I hate to
Say I would like to think that as a single woman without children I might have also stepped in but I might not have that was like the Clincher for me that these kids were not going to know that I didn't fight for them so I'm just curious do you think you would have gone or has that propelled you in one way or the other no I think it would have happened because of Repro at Baseline and I think in many ways it may have happened even
A little bit sooner because I think in my mind over the last several years and especially after rof fell there were many times where I was ready to jump ship from Clinical medicine and I didn't because I thought to myself clinical medicine is consistent it's just a few blocks from my house I have set hours I don't travel I know what I'm getting into I've been there for years already and I think that in a way I had made a decision on things that were most
Stable for my young family at the time okay and I think if it were not for my children I think in a way I probably would have jumped ship into more outspoken advocacy maybe a little sooner but my kids are young still right at 6 4 and two it's like we're all just trying to figure out how to stay afloat and move get the kids to daycare in the morning like quite literally some days we just like send my daughter in pajamas because the fight isn't
Worth it so I I think it's it's hard in advocacy this feeling of like you're you're just biting all the time and I have felt really conflicted in total transparency on when I make that jump how I make that jump how do I incorporate that in my life do I do that while I'm a CL in clinical medicine what does that look like what does it look like for me what does it look like for my family and then H after having you know recently had
That job change I lost my job I think in a way it's almost this feeling of I again advoc advocacy kind of chose me here I am you know and I don't I can't really fight it anymore and so we're just gonna lean in so talk about let tell me about some of the stuff you've been doing I know we talked previously and you said until the election we're just going you're just focusing on that what are some of the things that you've done besides the
Yard sign I know you did something about postcards Yeah you mentioned postcards F pal earlier and so that was a fun way of kind of further extending the reach of the lawn signs and we did that at first we I still use we it does feel I did that at first but it is it is collectively a collective it's a power of we yeah we did that when we had about 2,000 lawn signs ordered and I thought to myself okay this is great I'm going to
Have 2,000 lawn signs distributed across the state of Michigan but how do I make this movement bigger than those 2,000 lawn signs how can I further our reach and so for every person who got a lawn sign I gave them five postcards and the goal of the postcards is relational organizing and so there are many postcard campaigns where you send postcards to random strangers to encourage them to vote or you know there's all sorts of different campaigns that happen and this campaign specifically was your sending
Them to your friends your family people in your community and the whole goal was essentially just kind of walking through what I've already talked about like what makes you vulnerable why are you here why are you passionate about the election today and whether it be somebody who is apolitical doesn't have a consistent voting track record maybe it's a republican who's got kind of like a softer stance on not loving Trump or maybe it's just really anybody the whole goal was just to be trans transparent and
Again kind of lower that temperature so we started with 7500 postcards and all of those got sent out and so I just ordered another 5,000 postcards and we've got probably 2,000 of those sent out already so the goal of that kind of same concept is really decreasing the temperature opening up those conversations with people in your life about having politics in a calm vulnerable kind way you know back to the Wii slashme advocacy so often you know you think of it like you're it's you're in
Your house you're setting out these postcards you're ordering mail signs and it could feel like you're in a silo but it doesn't feel like that you've said we so many times it feels like it's bigger because it is how does that how have the connections been going how do you feel that you've kind of raised awareness in your community and how's it gone for you personally because you are spending I would imagine a lot of time doing all of this yeah it was interesting I was
Talking with Miller Morris last week and she's the founder of a really cool company called comma that is trying to change the way period products are and she does a lot of advocacy work within the menstrual space as well and when we were talking what was really impactful was kind of this like visualization that we were kind of work shopping of this feeling of us like running a marathon right like and I didn't sign up to run a marathon like I think maybe I signed up
For like a 5K and then they moved the Finish Line right like I signed up for 5K I trained for like maybe a TW mile run and I'm like okay I think I can get through a three mile run that you know 3.12 however many miles a 5k is and then all of a sudden you get there and it's like they're like oh jokes on you it's a 10K now and you're like well I'll be damn right then you're running a 10K and then you get
To the 10K you're like almost there and they're like nope and they just keep it feels like they just keep pushing the Finish Line further is what it feels like in advocacy right now and what Miller and I were kind of talking about is having that Collective we having the support from other people is like when people come out to cheer you on at of marathon right they're on the side lines for us or they're coming in to Pace me and they're running with me for
A couple miles and saying you can do this here's a gummy here's a water here's whatever sustenance you need to keep going and while I may not have signed up for that Marathon turns out I'm a pretty damn good runner at this point and so I've got all these people that are just like cheering me on and doing these things with me and we're creating this kind of like it's not super sustainable but more sustainable than it would be in a silo and when I kind
Of came to that picture of what that feels like it was really empowering and it made me feel so proud of that we right so proud to be a part of that Wii to be if you will a creator of that Wii and there are good days and bad days yesterday was a shitty day for me and I just was kind of in a funk I think I was mourning this change in my life right now and I posted a video and all of a sudden
Like 22,000 people watched it and hundreds of people had commented it on it and they're just like you know it's like holding signs up on the side of the road while I'm on Mile 22 I'm like hitting that runner's fatigue and they're just saying like keep going you can do this like you're doing this for a reason and it was almost this like recharge of what I needed in the moment and so I think you're exactly correct that we is a we on purpose because it's
Not alone and it's not done in a silo what about so okay so this is awesome because you're getting that support and you deserve it because you're doing something really important and it is so important and I think that sometimes people don't realize the impact they can have as an individual and how much it's appreciated and how you inspire the next person to take action so but some days you're not hearing from the cheerleaders by the way that was a great analogy some days you're hearing
Somebody like you're the worst runner go back what do you go back what do you say to people who are like on the fence they're thinking you know I'd like to speak up I'd like to do something but I'm kind of afraid and I don't know how it's going to be received and it is a you know a volatile time and as much as they might want to lower the temperature maybe they're they don't maybe that's not necessarily their skill set what do you say to
People who want to do this and are maybe afraid of the Fallout or aren't sure how to approach yeah I think when you say that it's not within their skill set that's a really helpful thing because I don't think everybody is good at everything nor does everybody want to do everything and I do think within advocacy work there is a space for people to do things that make them feel comfortable things that make them feel empowered and what I would say is I thankfully have been
One of those people that have never really cared too much about what other people have to say about me and so that's probably really helpful in this space right now but not everybody feels that way and if that is the case there are different things that you can do to get involved and be involved that don't have to be super public facing again you can even just start by having conversations with your best friends with your colleagues right and you don't have to feel nervous about
Doing that or feel shame in doing that and some of the most impactful change is proven to be in relational organizing it is proven to be in texting friends people that you feel comfortable with to say hey do you have a plan to vote hey did you know that in Michigan for example there's nine days of early voting so you don't have to stand in line hey did you know you can get an absentee ballot for no reason right whatever it is there are ways where
You can do it that you feel comfortable and so if you see something somebody else is doing and it inspires you but you don't feel comfortable doing what they do that doesn't mean you have to do what they do it means you have to choose what speaks to you what feels comfortable to you and what sits in your wheelhouse and that's where you're going to end up being most effective anyway is if you're in your comfort zone and slightly pushing those borders that's where you're going
To make change right absolutely and it's funny because you're I love how you're like you know when I was a kid it was like you want to get involved in politics okay so you're going to run for president like there are like five billion things you can do between here and there I mean it's count the ideas the things you can do and it when I did run for office I remember there were some people who were like I'll do anything I'll do anything to help
But don't make me knock on doors you know not everybody wants to be the person having those conversations or being at the door like you said being front-facing but you can send letters you can text your friends you can help support the people that are doing those things by giving them a water break or just opening the door that's a really nice step sometimes so tell me you know you recently we talked about you recently stopped working in the OBGYN space well the hired OBGYN space
That doesn't mean that you're not doing it in advocacy what is next for you what do we think what are you thinking at this point I don't know yet I don't know and I think it was so abrupt having been let go that I am and the timing was right before the election that I just kind of said I'm gonna lean in hard and I'm just going to see where all the chips fall after the election and I think we've got two different candidates where the
Landscape is going to look very different on you know could look very different on either side of the election so I don't know yet and what I'm going to do is just kind of wake up on November 6th I mean we're not going to have any answers on November 6 so that's one of the things too is that we're not going to know when we go to bed at night who the president is that night like we used to the good old days remember simp old
Days right so we won't know then and so I think it'll be kind of a an evolving thing but you will continue to hear from me about me in advocacy it's definitely something that is going to continue to call my name well before my last question is there anything that I didn't ask that you did want to talk about no I think we yeah I think that was a this was a fun time this was a really your first time as a moderator in this podcast
Space is my first time on a podcast so this has been I think it's gone pretty well two Y at least the two of us will like it my last thing though is so how can people either support you know our listeners assuming we have some how can they support you or your mission and maybe even more so your mission but support you in what you're doing to get the word out yeah so I'm on Instagram and Tik Tok n and I think the best thing
Is really following along on the journey and if there are messages that resonate with you sharing that and what we had talked about earlier in terms of like having those relational conversations with people that you know you can use little bits and pieces from things like these conversations to use almost as like a springboard into your conversation of hey I heard this convers ation that was happening on this podcast about this and it made me think this and I'd like to talk to you about that
Right and so it can almost help in a way of nudging these conversations forward bit by bit to if there are things that resonate with you to then use that to move forward in these conversations you know I'm going to add one last thing when you're doing your posts on Instagram you're you're super informative you're you done a great I really liked your post on the basically the rebuttal against people saying that people are having abortions after the ninth month which is we both know actual
Murder so that's not really happening but how you explain what's behind that is really well done and I think that you do that for a lot of topics is it okay I'm going to share your handles obviously in our transcript and I'll share them when I tag things but would it be all right for people to reach out to ask you questions if they want to have these conversations a lot of times I think what stops people from having the conversations is not actually knowing they're
Like well are we doing these things you know like is that happening somewhere so knowing the facts behind it even if you don't need to go you know it's not like you have to go to school for four years to just get some clarity just hearing from a professional in the space sometimes helps is that okay with you yeah I would love that and if I don't have the answer we can find the answer together there's a lot of other incredible people in this space too
Doing the work so I would love it's always an open dialogue and that's one of my favorite things that I do get to do in this new influencer social media role is getting to talk to other people about what questions you may have they may have right what questions their friends may have things like that I created this whole post about fetal personhood and iuds and how Republicans are coming after intrauterine devices simply because I did a talking session with the MSU Dems at Michigan State
And I talked about how Reproductive Rights are on the line iuds are on the line all these things and I got this lovely direct message from this you know probably 19-year-old college girl who bless her soul just reached out to me directly and was like Hey as a person who has an IUD I'd like to learn a little bit more can you explain that more in depth of what's Happening made a two-part video series being like here's exactly how this is happening here's exactly the words
That Republicans are using here's exactly the way that they're kind of hiding it in these bills and she was like this is so helpful sent it to all of her friends on state you know on campus at Michigan State which is great that is great I'm gonna find that and we're gonna link to that video too so I am so grateful for your work and your willingness to be here with me and I wish you lived closer so we can hang out in real life yeah
Stand outside by your maybe the next time we'll do this over beers at a brewery or something that sounds great I am ironically sitting at a bar cart so we're not that far off perfect thank this was so much fun you did awesome this was great I feel honored to be the inaugural guest of your pod series gonna be great so thrilled I was yeah thank you thank you so much everybody follow Nikki and I will share all of her info you know minus personal info
